Growing Home is pleased to announce that it is one of four Illinois organizations to receive funding from the United States Department of Agriculture’s Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP).
Lt. Governor Sheila Simon said in a press release, “This funding will help local food producers grow their operations and provide greater access to local foods. Expanding local foods in Illinois is good for the health of our citizens and our economy.”
The grant will be used to establish a new farm stand to sell produce from the Wood Street and Honore Farms to Greater Englewood residents, as well as purchase refrigeration equipment and other marketing supplies to allow Growing Home to distribute its vegetables more widely throughout the neighbourhood, whose residents have little access to fresh, healthy food. In addition, the funding will help support Growing Home’s healthy food workshops, including cooking demonstrations.
